I agree with the second part

For years, a pet peeve of mine has been the title of the movie starring Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman and featuring a serial killer who bases his crimes on some number or other of deadly sins. The title of the film is spelled thusly: Se7en. Obviously the correct pronounciation of that is se-sev-en-en. Apparently, the plague of spelling in this manner is spreading and increasing in severity. Last night, CBS premiered a show called Numb3rs. Pronounce that. Also, am I the only person who associates Seven (sic) with the Patriot Act? One of the provisions of the Patriot Act which has caused the most commotion is the one granting access to library records. If you take Seven (sic) literally, that's nothing new.

(hat tip: Yglesias).
