Schwarzenegger on Gerrymandering
In his State of the State address, Schwarzenegger argues for an independent committee of retired judges to control future redistricting. If he is able to succeed in this, it would be a great benefit to Californians. There is no principled defense of gerrymandering, and structural failures of our political system make it almost impossible to fix. Since both parties are in favor of it whenever they are in power, it is quite unlikely that it will ever be fixed on a large scale. Good for Schwarzenegger.
